Tips for getting the most out of your ballooning experience

  • Always choose a PBAA member because they have agreed to abide by the Industry Code of Conduct.

The day before your flight

  • Make sure that you know where and when you are meeting your crew.
  • Know how to get there if you are driving.
  • If your operator has asked you to check-in or reconfirm the day before do so during the designated check-in period.

On the morning of your flight

  • Be ready for your pickup or arrive at the designated meeting place a few minutes early, timing is critical and sometimes being even a few minutes late will cause you to miss your flight.
  • Listen to what your pilot and crew say and follow their instructions, it is for your own safety.
  • Don't smoke!
  • Relax and enjoy the surreal experience that is ballooning.

Clothing Recommendations

It is generally no colder in the balloon than it is on the ground. Most operators advise to dress like you are going out for a walk.

  • A light shirt, trousers or slacks, flat comfortable shoes and a cap or hat are suitable.
  • Avoid white clothes, ballooning is an outdoor adventure experience and white clothes have a habit of being soiled.
  • Avoid high healed shoes.

Weather Cancellations

Ballooning is a weather dependant activity and it is not safe to fly if the weather is unsuitable. On occasions it is necessary for flights to be cancelled because the weather is unsuitable, this could be because of too much wind, not enough wind, turbulence or thermal activity, poor visibility due to low cloud, fog or smoke or storms, lightning or rain.

Generally your pilot is able to make the go / no-go descision early on the morning of your flight, sometimes even the evening before but flights can be cancelled right up until the moment of lift off.

Your pilot and crew understand that it is disappointing to have a flight cancelled but make the decision with your safety in mind. Please be understanding and remember that it is much better to be down here wishing you were up there than up there wishing you were down here!

In the event of a flight being cancelled due to weather you will be advised of the rebooking / rescheduling procedure.
